Bibi Heal - Proms in the Park (1)Crowds enjoyed an evening of classical performances in South Tyneside when the popular Proms in the Park took place on Sunday (3 July).

The South Tyneside Orchestra gave songs from the movies and patriotic favourites the big band treatment at the open air concert in South Marine Park, in South Shields.

They were joined on stage by special guest soloist, Bibi Heal, who put her soprano spin on both classical and contemporary songs.

The free event, which was organised by South Tyneside Council, also featured rousing renditions of the National Anthem, Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people come together to enjoy an evening of classical music.

“The open-air concert always proves to be a popular part of our Summer Festival and this year was no exception with plenty of people taking the opportunity to see both the South Tyneside Orchestra and the talented Bibi Heal perform by the seafront.”

The Proms in the Park forms part of the South Tyneside Festival, which offers free entertainment and activities throughout the summer until the end of August, including live music in South Marine Park, Kids’ Fun-Fest Parties and monthly craft markets,
