Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Family Fun Day Celebrating 25 Years is set for Record Attendance

Screen Shot 2015-06-25 at 10.53.27North East-based charity, The Children’s Foundation, is set to break attendance records this Sunday at its free Family Fun Day extravaganza at Kirkley Hall, to celebrate its 25th anniversary and the launch of its new campaign ‘…because minding matters’.

Over 4,000 people from across the region are expected to attend on Sunday, putting the event on track to be the most successful event ever held by The Children’s Foundation.

The Family Fun Day, which will be packed full of exciting activities for all ages, includes traditional lawn games, a 120 meter zip wire, and half price access to Kirkley Hall Zoo. There will also be a mini food festival, dance workshops, a treasure hunt and appearances from popular superheroes and princesses, including The Children’s Foundation’s own mascot ‘Courage the Lion’. Seven Stories are also lined up to transform the Kirkley Hall forest into a magical fairytale land.

The Children’s Foundation was established in 1990 with the launch of the Yellow Brick Road Appeal with the vision of giving children and young people across the North East access to the best health and wellbeing services in the UK. The charity works to raise funds to enable medical research, support health service delivery and create partnerships to help disadvantaged, disabled and distressed children – whom other charities cannot always reach.

The Family Fun Day will be the first chance for families in the North East to get involved with the charity’s new campaign ‘…because minding matters’, which launched earlier this month to coincide with its 25th anniversary. The campaign aims to raise funds for child and adolescent mental wellbeing in the North East of England and Cumbria by appealing to businesses and the community to support the initiative.

The excitement from the community in the run up to the Family Fun Day proves the ‘…because minding matters’ campaign has captured the region’s hearts once again, following the success of The Children’s Foundation’s Yellow Brick Road campaign which has worked to improve children’s health over the last 25 years.

Kirkley Hall’s stunning 190 acre rural estate offers more than enough space for all to attend. The Children’s Foundation is urging families to get there early on Sunday to avoid disappointment.

Libby Nolan, Fundraising Manager at The Children’s Foundation said, “We have been blown away by the response from the community to our new campaign and by the numbers of people expected to attend the Family Fun Day on Sunday.”

It’s great to be able to celebrate our 25 year anniversary with families who are the next generation of Yellow Brick Road supporters. Without their help we wouldn’t be able to reach as many children and young people as we do. We are grateful to everyone who has been involved in helping us to make the Family Fun Day a success, and are looking forward to celebrating in style on Sunday.”

The Family Fun Day is free to all and will be held at Kirkley Hall on Sunday 28th June from 11am until 4pm. For more information visit http://www.thechildrensfoundation.co.uk and to confirm your attendance, go to the Facebook event here, https://www.facebook.com/events/479293612224942/.
