Family-Owned Transport Firm brings Apprenticeships back to the Industry

HGV Apprenticeships have not been commonly found in the transport and logistics industry for more than a quarter of a century.

Now, Northumberland-based Moody Logistics, a family-owned transport and warehousing business, is turning to young talent to become the drivers of tomorrow.

Initially, a single apprentice is being sought as the company, which has its headquarters on the Bolam Business Park, Cramlington, looks to grow its 30-strong workforce.

The aim is to give the apprentices an insight into the logistics industry and develop their wider skills, alongside driving. This would include warehousing and forklift operation, as well as driving 7.5T, 18T and articulated vehicles.

Business Development Director Caroline Moody said: “It isn’t always easy to find top quality staff when you are looking to recruit, so we have decided to explore the potential of growing our own talent through apprenticeships.

“While most transport companies mainly operate artics, we have the full range from Luton Transits upwards, which provides a progression path for the apprentices, allowing them to gain confidence and ability as they develop.

“It has been a long time since HGV Apprentices were found in our industry, but as a family-owned business we feel it is important to nurture local talent and help people to develop the skills to be a valued part of our team.

“In 1997, Moody Logistics became the first, and remains the only, transport company in their sector to achieve Investors in People status, so development of those individuals who make up our team is something we are passionate about.”
