North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

middlesbrough-moving-forwardTHE popular Smile Mile is returning as part of this year’s Discover Middlesbrough festival.

The event was first staged last October to mark the closure of the town’s historic Clairville Stadium.

Now all are invited to take part – walking, running or spectating – in the second Smile Mile at the state-of-the-art Middlesbrough Sports Village on Thursday, October 29.

It’s part of the 2015 Discover Middlesbrough programme which is an open invitation to explore all corners of the town, from well-known attractions to hidden gems.

The festival runs until Saturday, October 31 and offers a range of exciting opportunities to explore and enjoy everything the town has to offer.

Next week’s Smile Mile is a celebration of Middlesbrough’s rich heritage in running, from international competitors to local people running to keep shape or running to raise funds for local charities and good causes.

The event is also a great opportunity for people to have a look around the first class facilities at the recently launched Middlesbrough Sports Village, while RunMiddlesbrough affiliated charities will be in attendance at the event to help raise their profile and provide them with an opportunity to raise additional funds.

Middlesbrough Council Sports Development Manager Scott Hydon said: “Last year’s Smile Mile was a fitting end to an era at Clairville, and we had a great turn-out to bid farewell to the stadium and track.

“A year later the fantastic facilities at the Sports Village are already part of the fabric of the town, and are proving a huge hit with runners and athletes of all ages and abilities.

“The 2015 Middlesbrough Smile Mile is an opportunity for everyone to take part in a community fun run on the Sports Village track.

“It really is open to all and will be a very relaxed event, and those taking part are welcome to run or walk as little or as much as they like.”

The second Middlesbrough Smile Mile takes place at Middlesbrough Sports Village (off Ladgate Lane via Alan Peacock Way) on Thursday, October 29 from 8pm. Entry is free and open to all – just turn up and take part.

Discover Middlesbrough programmes are available from venues across Middlesbrough, including libraries, community hubs, museums, Middlesbrough Town Hall, Middlesbrough FC and the Transporter Bridge Visitor Centre.
