Middlesbrough’s Dundas Market has signed up five new tenants in just five weeks, recently achieving 100% occupancy for the first time in more than a decade, and leading to plans by the market to create more retail space to accommodate more businesses.
“We still want to hear from prospective new tenants and welcome enquiries, but space in our vibrant market is now at a premium. This is excellent news when you consider all the negativity about high street retailing which has emerged over the past few months,” says Dundas Market Manager David Harris.
Four of the new tenants at Dundas Indoor Market, part of the Dundas Shopping Centre, are new to the market. They are Kindrid Spirits, offering tarot card readings, reflexology and reiki healing; Gems Scentual Aromas selling bath bombs and soaps; Baby Beautiful selling reborn dolls and Moses baskets for both babies and dolls; and Advanced Windows Limited which supplies and installs replacement windows and doors. The fifth is existing tenant Dermadio Beauty Clinic which has taken on a second market unit to provide holistic therapies including massage.
The new tenants at Dundas Market follow hard on the heels of The Little Vegan Market, Leo Libra Pet Supplies, The Celebrity Gift Company and Flexpro mobile phone accessories, all of which have opened in the market since June.
David continues: “Our success shows that there is a bright future for independent traders offering value-for-money specialist, and often unique, goods and services, combined with great customer service in a supportive and friendly atmosphere.
“We have built clusters of health and wellbeing, fashion, gift, and food businesses, all of which complement each other and can work together, alongside a wide range of other traders.”
Middlesbrough independent commercial property consultancy Dodds Brown is the letting and managing agent for Dundas Market and Shopping Centre.
Richard Wilson, Senior Associate Partner at Dodds Brown says: “Dundas Market truly is the home of the entrepreneur in Middlesbrough. Its range of independent businesses benefits from the shopping centre footfall of more 60,000 a week and the presence of The Live Well Centre. We are looking forward to a successful Christmas trading period for all our tenants.”
Dundas Indoor Market is located in the Dundas Shopping Centre where all the shops offer value for money, from national brands like B&M, Fulton Foods and Cooplands to well-known local independents like The Festival Shop, Tik Tok, Homefair Blinds, Buckshees Military Surplus, LD Printing and Miss Unique.
