Chairman of the Council, Councillor Tony Duff, led officials from the authority – along with forces personnel – in a ceremony to raise a special flag in Friary Gardens, Richmond. There was also a four jet flypast courtesy of the RAF.

Councillor Duff gave the initial address and Lt Col Mark Steed, Commander of Catterick Garrison replied on behalf of the armed forces. They were joined by veterans, civic leaders, councillors, local schoolchildren from MKC (Military Kids Club) Heroes and forces personnel – Army, Navy and RAF.

“It is important that our Armed Forces past and present are shown support and gratitude for the huge personal sacrifices they have made and continue to make for our country,” said Councillor Duff.

“To have so many people represented at the ceremony – both present and past military personnel – made the event very special.”
