Flournoy crowned Molten BBL Coach of the Month

British_Basketball_League_(emblem)After leading Esh Group Eagles Newcastle to a glorious clean sweep during 2014-15, Fab Flournoy has wasted no time in adding to his honours list this time around after being named Molten BBL Coach of the Month.

Dished out for his efforts since the start of the new campaign in mid-September, Flournoy takes the gong after leading the Eagles to a flawless opening six weeks.

The play-caller has presided over nine wins and beaten opponents at an outstanding average of more than 18 points per game.

In the last outing of that unblemished sequence, Flournoy propelled his team into the BBL Cup Semi-Finals as they now eye yet another appearance in showpiece Final at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham.

In the first couple of what turned out to be a fine eight BBL Championship triumphs, the season started with a pair of road wins – an opening night 85-78 success at Sheffield Sharks and then a 98-65 victory at Surrey Scorchers.

Returning to Sport Central for the first time this season, the Eagles doubled their win tally by beating Leeds Force 91-63 and then working hard to despatch London Lions 92-84.

Back on their travels and once again inspired by some pivotal displays by reigning BBL MVP Charles Smith, the Eagles continued to roll with an 84-71 win at Bristol Flyers and then 99-93 at Plymouth University Raiders 24 hours later.

Flournoy and Co finished the period with three more wins on home soil – firstly exploding offensively to register a 118-80 success against Cheshire Phoenix and a similarly one-sided 78-52 league triumph against Leeds Force.

Their perfect start was then wrapped up with their positive BBL Cup Quarter-Final result – although they were pushed close by Glasgow Rocks as they eventually squeezed past their rivals 83-78.

Flournoy fought off stiff competition from Rob Paternostro for the award. The Leicester Riders’ play-caller has also led his team to a 100% record – chalking up six wins in as many games.
