Foundation join forces with UEFA Foundation to support ambitious disability sport vision

Newcastle United Foundation have received a second significant contribution of €50,000 from UEFA Foundation to help develop their capital project and to specifically support the creation of an outstanding facility for disability sport.

The continued partnership will link two community institutions, both who strive to use football to help support children and adults with disabilities, allowing them to play, develop and improve their life skills and education.

The Foundation’s disability provision has grown from two after-school clubs and four Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools in 2011, to now working in more than 44 SEN schools and 25 coaching centres for both adults and children.

UEFA Foundation for Children’s donation will help support Newcastle United Foundation – who work with close to 1500 children and adults on their disability programme – and their redevelopment of Murray House into a state-of-the art facility for young people just a goal-kick away from St. James’ Park.

Newcastle United Foundation, Deputy Head, Sarah Medcalf, said:

“This is an historic project for the Foundation and we’re delighted to have UEFA Foundation – who provide support for projects all over the world – alongside us to help make it happen.

“Our disability programme has gone from strength to strength and we will continue to offer children and adults, who haven’t always had the right opportunities, a safe environment to develop and enjoy football.

“UEFA Foundation’s work has been inspirational and they share the same mission as we do, to help people be more active, to learn, to be more employable, to make connections and to reach their potential.”

Urs Kluser, General Secretary, UEFA Foundation for Children, added:

“We are delighted to be enhancing the support we are providing the Newcastle United Foundation for their new ambitious and revolutionary facility and look forward to seeing its development over the coming months.”

The Foundation will begin construction in September 2020, with doors opening September 2021.
