Franks the Flooring Store and Connection Retail swapped flooring for football to raise £3,500 at a charity match.

The two firms, which form part of Shildon-based CreateCity Group, went head to head at West Auckland Football Club, with all proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Franks and Connection Retail each donated £1,000 to the fund, and the figure has been boosted following sponsorship from West Auckland AFC, Envirostik, Hobbitz and Universal Mouldings along with a raffle for spectators.

The game ended 4-2 to Connection Retail, although plans are already in place to make this an annual charity fundraiser, so Franks is hoping to turn the tables when the teams meet again.

Nick Bisicker, Assistant General Manager at Connection Retail, said: “It was a well-deserved result and money raised is going to a very deserving cause. It’s always hard to choose one charity but Macmillan does fantastic work supporting those affected by cancer so it’s a great feeling to be able to do our bit to help.”

Wayne Jones, Area Manager at Franks the Flooring Store, said: “The match may not have gone our way, but we’re thrilled with one result; the amount of money raised for Macmillan. We had fantastic support from our sponsors and spectators and we’re now thrilled to make this part of CreateCity’s annual charity fundraising efforts.”

The event comes after a previous donation from Franks to Macmillan of £25,844 following a year of fundraising activities, including a fancy dress day.
