The action in the town’s Centre Square – all of which is free to attend – will begin with Puccini’s La Boheme on Wednesday, June 10 from 7.30pm.

Set in the colourful and vibrant Latin Quarter of the Bohemian Paris of the 1830s the tender and ultimately tragic love story is given moving expression through Puccini’s beautiful and memorable score.

Following on from that screening, fans will be treated to a performance of Mozart’s masterpiece Don Giovanni on Friday, July 3 from 7pm.

The third and final piece in the trilogy of shows will be a production of Romeo and Juliet, which will be shown on the Big Screen on Tuesday, September 22 at 7.30pm.

The programme is once again supported by BP who have promoted wider access to world class performances from the Royal Opera House for 15 years.

Alex Beard, Chief Executive of the Royal Opera House, said: “The BP Big Screens are a brilliant way to enjoy free opera and ballet from the Royal Opera House across the UK.

“A must-see in many people’s summer diaries, the ongoing commitment and support from BP allows us to reach new audiences whilst entertaining those who return each year to watch the productions beamed on to the big screens.”

Des Violaris, BP’s UK Director for Arts and Culture, said: “If you are new to the art forms or a seasoned fan these really are the perfect way to spend the evening.”
