A Teesside scaffolding company is elevating its growth plans after receiving funding to expand its workforce and purchase new equipment.

Total Access Scaffolding, which is based in Portrack, Stockton, provides scaffold access for clients ranging from domestic households to commercial businesses across the North East.

The firm is set to hire three apprentice scaffolders and invest in extra material and truck bodies to enable its vehicles to be used during projects, and new office equipment after receiving a grant of £28,500.

The funding will also enable the company to outsource marketing and HR to assist with its growth.

Operations Manager Matthew Blakemore said: “By creating a bigger workforce and investing in this equipment and services, we’ll be able to tender for more lucrative contracts and operate on a larger scale.

“When we found out we could access funding to support these plans, it was a no-brainer.”

However, after submitting their initial application for the TVCA Growth Grant, the team were faced with various questions and queries from the grant assessment team – which was when they decided to seek help from Middlesbrough-based funding consultancy company, Nudl.

Matthew continued: “It was quite difficult to complete the funding application and respond to queries in the specific wording needed.

“We knew that we needed a specialist to help make the application coherent, articulate how the proposed project would help us grow, and ultimately lead to a successful bid, which was when we got in touch with Nudl.”

Shak Asghar, CEO of Nudl, said: “The funding process can be tricky to navigate, and many of our clients come to us after starting it themselves but running into issues.

“But that’s exactly what we’re here for; to simplify the process and make it easier for businesses to access grants that can help them grow.

“Many business owners don’t have time to be going backwards and forwards answering queries on an application, so we take the stress away and take care of that for them.”

Matthew added: “When I called Nudl they were really easy to speak to and made me feel very confident in their capabilities.

“The team broke down the application process and explained everything to us. They really made the whole process very easy to understand and were there to help with anything we needed.

“It was an extremely quick and smooth process, and I would recommend Nudl to anyone who is struggling to access funding themselves.”

The grant was accessed through the Tees Valley Growth hub at TVCA and it is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
