CaptureThe arrival of two new faces at one of the region’s expanding law firms has added further strength and depth to its corporate and commercial team.

Swinburne Maddison LLP, has recently appointed paralegal, Adam Chaffer and solicitor, Sarah Carr to its highly respected corporate team, which is headed up by partner Martyn Tennant, winner of both the Young Lawyer of the Year and Corporate Lawyer of the Year awards in 2015.

Following nine years working for Lloyds Bank, as an assistant relationship manager, managing a large portfolio of businesses, Sarah changed direction, qualifying as a solicitor in 2014.  Working for a boutique corporate and commercial law firm with offices in Newcastle and London, she gained valuable experience advising predominantly start-up companies in the technology sector.  Typically, this called for Sarah to advise on seed-investment deals which often involved a venture capital funder, such as Northstar Ventures.

Speaking about joining the practice, Sarah said:

“Swinburne Maddison has developed a reputation as a progressive law firm which is going from strength to strength.  I believe my experience adds a different dimension to the team and I am looking forward to making a valuable contribution to the continued success of the firm.”

Adam in the meantime took a similarly unusual step in accepting his appointment with Swinburne Maddison, opting to work in a practice environment, as part of the corporate team, rather than his in house role with main contractor Carillion plc, where he had specialised in construction and commercial law.

Adam is also involved with Newcastle Cricket Club, where he is company secretary, and additionally sits on the board of governors at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he has a particular interest in the trust’s business development.

Speaking about the latest arrivals, Martyn Tennant added:

“In recent months we have added some six new members to the firm and had a further two of our trainees, Helen Griffiths and Roland Fairlamb, become fully qualified. Congratulations to both on their achievements. I am delighted that both Sarah and Adam have decided to join us at a time when the practice continues to enjoy a period of sustained growth.  I am very much looking forward to the positive contribution I am confident they are going to make to our continued success.”
