Garden Waste Collections set to start for 2016

middlesbrough-moving-forwardWITH spring just around the corner, Middlesbrough residents are being reminded that green waste collections get under way again next month.

Collections resume from Tuesday, April 5, and householders are reminded that they should use the green wheelie bins only for the garden waste.

Any material left at the side of the green bins will not be removed – green sacks used previously and other sacks and containers will not be collected.

Green bins are for loose, unbagged garden waste only – grass trimmings, plants, flowers, branches etc – and should not be used to dispose of other items such as soil and rubble.

Residents are urged check their recycling calendars which can be viewed and downloaded via the Council’s website to ensure they put their waste out on the correct day.

Garden waste can also be disposed of at the Household Waste Recycling Centre at Haverton Hill.

Councillor Tracy Harvey, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Environment, said: “A great many residents make use of our green waste collection service, and it’ll soon be time for the gardening to start again in earnest.

“Recycling is more important than ever and we do all we can to make the service as user-friendly as possible.

“I’m grateful to everyone for the helping to ensure Middlesbrough has a green and sustainable future.”

The 2016 Refuse & Recycling calendar can be viewed or downloaded from the Middlesbrough Council website at www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/recycling

Any residents requiring a green bin or further advice and information on   the disposal of green waste can call the Environment Contact Centre on 01642 726001.
