Daisy Chain’s charity superstore is a major retail outlet on Teesside and is looking for volunteers to help out.

The charity raises funds through the store to help support families affected by autism throughout the Tees Valley.

Each week the superstore receives almost 1,000 bags of donations which need to be sorted and around 30 to 40 van collections each week.

Volunteers are a vital source of support to this enterprise so the charity is holding a volunteer taster day where anyone interested can try their hand at working in retail.

There are a whole host of tasks in store from sorting donations and pricing them for the shop floor to working on the tills.

Volunteer Kyle Brant loves spending time at the superstore. Kyle, who has cerebral palsy is hoping the skills he learns through volunteering will help him get a job. He said: ‘Coming to volunteer at Daisy Chain makes me happy. It gives me a routine and purpose in my week. The opportunities you get here at Daisy Chain are endless, the staff are open to helping you learn everything from how to sort donations, price and display and work the till to general life skills like working in a team and helping customers.’

The session is on Wednesday December 5 at 10am to 2pm at the Daisy Chain Superstore, Ross Road, Portrack Lane, Stockton-on-Tees where the volunteering team will be on hand to help and answer any queries.

Rob Kendall, volunteer manager, added: ‘Lots of people are interested in volunteering but they are uncertain as to what it involves, whether they will be able to do the work, what the commitment is. Our taster day will give them the opportunity to find out what they want to know without any obligation. We would like people to come along and see for themselves what volunteering is like.’

Anyone who wants to attend can register their interest by calling Daisy Chain on 01642 531248 or email volunteering@daisychainproject.co.uk.
