A FREE new activity kicks off at 10.30am Thursday 14 April 2016 at Sandhill Centre Library.
Sporting Memories is a new group activity funded by Sunderland West Area Committee for all those who love sport. The activity which aims to help combat loneliness and isolation especially in older residents encourages like-minded people to get together to discuss their love of sport and to share memories.
Sunderland Library Services are delivering this event, using iconic images of sport and sporting legends to help trigger conversation, debate and memories of watching and playing sport over the years.
Tony Jameson-Allen who is co-founder and director at Sporting Memories said: ”This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to talk about their own personal sporting memories. It doesn’t matter whether it’s about their first football or rugby match they went to, what sport was like at school, what games they played with friends in the street or even if they played Spot the Ball, everyone is welcome to come along and share their thoughts over a cuppa.”
The group is open to all sports fans and is a great way to stay connected, enjoy some great conversations and to make some new friends too over a cup of tea, coffee even the traditional half-time refreshment Bovril !!
The group will meet fortnightly until June 2016 and cover a wide range of topics and sports. Over the coming weeks, group members will also be asked to recall their memories of the 1966 World Cup. To mark the 50th anniversary of England’s victory, Sporting Memories Network are working with the FA and National Football Museum on an exhibition and are collecting the nation’s memories of ’66.
