Gisborough Hall welcomes new head chef- with Royal connections

Gisborough Hall has a new head chef- who has cooked for royalty.

David Sotheran has returned to the four-star hotel after several years working at restaurants around the country- he originally worked at Gisborough Hall From January 2005 to October 2014.

David, from Hartlepool, has cooked for a host of well-known people including Princess Anne, Rowan Atkinson and David Jason, as well as dozens of Premier League footballers.

One of his main responsibilities will be to re-launch the bistro at Gisborough Hall. He’ll also be responsible for creating new menus for Chaloner’s, the hotel’s award-winning restaurant, and developing the popular afternoon tea menus.

David said: “It’s a delight to return to the heart of Gisborough Hall as head chef. It’s such an exciting time as we’re going through many changes, not least re-launching the bistro.

The hotel is available for lunch, dinner and afternoon tea, whether it be a special occasion or informal get together with friends.

“I’m a passionate advocate of local suppliers- and using as much seasonal game and fish in my dishes. We’ve teamed up with the best of the best and I can’t wait to share my new menus.”

Ruairidh Taylor, hotel manager, said: “We’re all really excited to have David back at Gisborough Hall. He’s got some tasty ideas for our new menus and has spent a lot of time putting together his brigade of chefs, made up of lots of local talent.”

A recent AA inspection rated Gisborough Hall as one of the top destinations in the North East and North Yorkshire, retaining its AA’s four ‘Silver Star’ rating for its overall quality. The silver stars mark Gisborough Hall as being of superior quality and are one of the highest hotel accolades available in the UK.  Inspectors noted menus were ‘well-constructed to meet the needs of a wider clientele’ and ‘very good quality produce was noted. The breakfast menu was praised for offering a ‘very good choice of hot and cold items’ and ‘quality produce’ was noted here too.

Gisborough Hall was has also been singled out as one of the best hotels in the world by Bookings.com, a global leader in hotel booking sites. The 4* hotel won a Guest Review Award, which recognises properties for their exceptional hospitality based on average visitor scores. Gisborough averaged 9/10 – one of the highest available. Gisborough Hall was one of the only hotels in North Yorkshire and Teesside to receive the accolade.

Gisborough Hall became a fully-independent and self-managed hotel in April 2017 and employs over 100 local people across the hotel, in its restaurants, bars and Revival Zone.
