Golfers chip in for charity at hospice event

A TEAM of golfers from a home care provider has become the latest to win a competitive annual tournament held in aid of a pioneering North-East charity.

Dale Care Ltd. emerged victorious in the Butterwick Golf Classic Tournament, during which 72 golfers from seventeen North-East businesses clubbed together to play a round in aid Butterwick Hospice Care.

Since the first time the tournament was held in 2009, the Butterwick Golf Classic has raised money towards the hospice’s work of providing care and support to terminally ill people – and their loved ones – in North-East communities.

This was the eleventh year the competition has been held at the five-star Rockliffe Hall Golf & Spa Hotel, in Hurworth-on-Tees, and the golf day is expected to more than £5,000 for the charity.

Second place went to Tech Consult UK, with HSBC Gateshead coming in third. The Nearest to the Pin contest was won by Lewis Kaid, a guest of Crystal Galleries, and the Longest Drive by Iain Mallett, from Lucite.

Golfers also stood to win prizes if they managed to sink a hole in one, including a star prize of a new car, sponsored by Towergate BIB Darlington. Unfortunately, no-one pulled off the ace.

Event organiser Patricia Boynton said: “I’d like to thank all our teams for taking part. This event wouldn’t be possible without them, and without supporters like them, Butterwick Hospice Care wouldn’t exist.

“We’re also very grateful to Barclays, for matching what we raise, to Rockliffe Hall for having us back once again, and to our fantastic sponsors: Towergate BIB Darlington, Enviro-Tech Maintenance, Industrial Technology Systems, and Alexanders Motor Group.”

Organisers hope the tournament will return to Rockliffe Hall next year. To find out more, or for information on upcoming events, visit www.butterwick.org.uk, or call 01642 628930.
