Helping people to banish the winter blues, the local authority is encouraging people to take advantage of the leisure offer.
Those who do so will have access to five modern gyms, four pools, two spas and 195 classes at five locations across North Tyneside.
It’s available for people to sign-up between November 16 and December 13, and those who then go on to become full Contours members will not pay a joining fee.
Cllr Eddie Darke, cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “This brilliant offer gives people the chance to try all our first class Contours facilities.
“Although there’s no obligation to take up a membership afterwards, we very much hope that after sampling what’s on offer with Contours, people will continue their membership as a way of having a more active lifestyle and improving their health.”
Contours member, Joanne Glynn, 27, added: “I love the variety at Contours and the flexibility of being able to go to different locations; I’ll do a spinning class at Hadrian, then another day I’ll join in with a Metafit class at The Parks, or call into Waves and take my daughter swimming.
“The instructors are really helpful and great at developing my own personal workout plan to help me achieve my goals.
“Recently, an instructor suggested I use the InBody machine – it’s been great for tailoring my workout so I know the types of exercise I need to focus on.”
All Contours gyms have the innovative InBody technology which uses electrical pulses to precisely measure muscle mass, body fat percentage, body mass index and much more, allowing instructors to design a personalised mix of activities.
A membership, which starts from £20 per month, gives access to the facilities at the Lakeside Centre in Killingworth, Hadrian Leisure Centre in Wallsend, Tynemouth Pool, Waves at Whitley Bay and The Parks in North Shields.
