Hadrian’s Wall Half Marathon

On Sunday 25 June 2017, a total of 337 runners took part in the 7th annual Hadrian’s Wall Half Marathon, taking in some of the finest views Northumberland has to offer. Following the event a donation of £1,300 was made to the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team.

A total of 14 Mountain Rescue volunteers and their two off road capable Land Rover Ambulances were in attendance, providing rescue cover for the event. The Team’s medics treated two runners who had fallen badly whilst running but had managed to finish the race prior to treatment.

The fastest time on the day to cover the 13.1 miles over a mixed terrain of grass path, forest track and around 4.4 miles of road, was set by Stuart Sharp of Holmfirth Harriers AC with a time of 1 hour and 21 minutes. Not everyone was there to set the fastest time however; a good number of competitors ran in fancy dress including a couple of Centurions.

It costs around £20k each year to keep the Mountain Rescue team operational, all of which is raised through charitable donations. Further donations can be made online at www.justgiving.org/nnpmrt.

The full results list and further photos of the event can be found at http://www.hadrianhalf.co.uk/.
