Hammersley Commits To Falcons

Newcastle_Falcons_logo.svgNewcastle Falcons are delighted announce that Simon Hammersley has become the latest player to commit his future to the club after signing a two year extension to his current contract.

Hammersley, 22, first joined the club’s Academy last summer after graduating from Durham University after impressing in the 2013 Premiership Rugby Sevens.

Making his Aviva Premiership debut on the opening day of the 2014/15 season, the Full Back went on to make a further 24 first team appearances throughout the summer, cementing his place amongst the Falcons first team set up.

Speaking of the new deal, Hull-born Hammersley said: “It’s a very exciting time to be involved at Newcastle. The club is making great strides forward and I am happy here.”

“When I started last summer everyone was very welcoming. I’ve had some great exposure in the first team and am very much looking to continue my form from last season and helping the team and ultimately the club achieve its goals.”

“Last year was my opportunity to try and win a place in the squad but this season I’m looking more long-term and trying to cement my place for the future. I’m trying to build on what I did before, take any opportunities I get and also get that consistency across my game throughout the season.

“As a club we all think that we can win a few more of those close games this season, and will be pushing ourselves to get into the top half of the table so I’m looking forward to that challenge.”

Commenting on this morning’s news Director of Rugby Dean Richards said: “It’s great news that Simon has agreed to sign a new contract with us after an impressive debut season with the club.”

“He made an immediate impact on our game at the start of last season and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue to grow and develop throughout the seasons to come.

“As a club we feel it’s important to have a nucleus of talented young English players who are ambitious and keen to make their mark in the game and Simon is very much a part of that group.”
