A talented young architect at a Newcastle practice is stepping up to take on a key role in helping to shape the future of her profession across the North East.
Hannah Darmody, a 33-year-old architect at Toffee Factory-based Pod, has been appointed as the communicate representative on the North East Young Architectural Practitioners Forum’s committee.
Established by RIBA North East, the Forum aims to support architects in their first eight years of qualification, helping them build networks across the profession and raise the profile of architecture in the region.
The appointment will see Hannah Darmody organising industry related events to foster interaction between architects and other construction professionals. Responsibilities will include working with colleagues on an annual events programme, arranging speakers and venues, encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration and securing event sponsors.
She said the Forum offers an opportunity for young professionals to broaden their sphere of influence, and access knowledge and skills that they may not be exposed in their daily jobs.
“This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future for our profession across the North East,” she said. “I’m particularly looking forward to helping young architects broaden their areas of influence, encouraging them to network and engage with other creative and construction industry professionals whose shared knowledge and guidance will improve our skill levels as young architects.”
Pod’s Director Adam Lee said it was important to support young architects’ careers: “The North East Young Architectural Practitioners Forum exposes young architects to other professionals and other schools of thought. The more young professionals such as Hannah do this, the more they strengthen their ability to develop and grow as successful and influential architects.”
