Hawaii comes to Pelton Grange Care Home for summer BBQ

ALOHA from Chester le Street’s elderly during their Hawaiian themed annual summer BBQ.

Colourful shirts, grass skirts and Hawaiian lei transported the Pelton Grange Care Home residents to the central Pacific archipelago – all without leaving Pelton.

Staff, families and friends joined in the jollity, including a tribute to Elvis Presley from singer Alex McRae, on the anniversary of king of rock ‘n’ roll’s death in August 1977.

Children and grandchildren took to the paddling pool beach while everyone enjoyed a burger or hotdog from the BBQ.

Les Burnett, home manager for Pelton Grange Care Home, Front Street, said: “We hold a summer BBQ every year, come rain or shine, because our residents just love it.

“This year, we had a Hawaiian theme, and also marked the 40th anniversary of Elvis’s death. We have lots of fans in the home and they thoroughly enjoyed the music.

“Families and friends brought their youngsters along and we had a great, family-friendly day. It was delightful to see the children interacting with the residents.

“I always feel like these events help bring the community together and we hope to see more attending in future.”
