Health club shortlisted for national fitness awards

A renowned Windermere hotel is in the running to bag a brace of prestigious national awards.

Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa has been shortlisted for two categories in the National Fitness Awards to be held at the end of November.

The resort’s health and fitness club has been nominated by judges for the ‘Health Club of the Year’ category, whilst the hotel and its spa facilities have been recommended for the ‘Best Hotel and Spa’ category.

The awards recognise excellence and achievement in facilities throughout the country, with finalists shortlisted from as far north as Elgin and as far south as Devon.

Michael Kay, group leisure manager from English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues, which manages the Health Club at Low Wood Bay, says: “The National Fitness Awards are among the industry’s finest accolades.

“To be shortlisted again this year for not one but two categories, is testament to everyone’s continued hard work and commitment to the resort, its guests and members.

“We offer some of the most extensive facilities in the country and we’re extremely proud to lead the way not just in the range of our activities but also with an exceptional level of service and commitment from our team.”

Up to seven finalists have been selected in each award category for the next stage of the judging process.  This involves a site visit by a member of the awards team who look around the facilities and interview members and staff before compiling a comprehensive report for the judging panel.

National Fitness Awards’ event director Judith Halkerston adds: “The National Fitness Awards are celebrating their tenth birthday this year and with more entries than ever before, our finalists really have reason to celebrate too as it’s a huge achievement to have made the shortlist and is testament to the teams behind each of the facilities.”

The refurbished health club at the hotel is part of a multi-million redevelopment of Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa.  The resort has recently completed the final phases of its redevelopment programme including the addition of the indoor and outdoor spa areas, the Winander Club and Blue Smoke on the Bay.

The health club now offers in excess of 40 indoor and outdoor classes for members as well as extensive facilities including a spacious fitness studio with 40 cardio and resistance stations.

There is also a swimming pool, large steam room, express beauty treatment rooms, infra-red sauna and modern spa facilities including fantastic outdoor hot tubs, sauna and infinity pool.  Modernised male, female and family changing areas are also a new feature of the development.
