A Durham landlord is helping the county’s most vulnerable through a partnership with a local charity.
From next week, Durham City Homes will be holding a drop-in service on the last Tuesday of each month at Waddington Street Centre.
The centre provides support services to people with mental health issues, including access to housing, health and wellbeing, and educational resources.
The drop-in sessions will give attendees the opportunity to seek face-to-face advice on the necessary steps to be rehoused, and also answer existing tenants’ queries on repairs, rent, antisocial behaviour and other support services.
Helen Thompson, Customer Service and Support Manager from Durham City Homes, said: “We understand that some customers prefer to talk through their housing queries in person, but may find it difficult to come to our offices.
“From Tuesday, 26 March between 10.30am and 12pm, and at the end of each month thereafter, we will be on hand to offer advice and support with residents’ housing queries from the charity’s city centre location.”
Steve Wakefield, Waddington Street Centre Manager, said: “At Waddington Street Centre we strive to ensure that people’s lives are as good as they possibly can be.
“We know that having poor housing conditions can badly affect a person’s mental health and by establishing a partnership with Durham City Homes, we have the opportunity to work closely with a local housing provider.
“I am sure that the partnership will be to the mutual benefit of the customers and clients of both organisations.”
