The Ryedale District Council Housing Options team offer bespoke advice and assistance for owner occupiers who have mortgage arrears.

A specialist advisor, based at Ryedale House in Malton, can access accredited debt advice and financial assistance for eligible residents, as well as negotiating with mortgage lenders.

Breathing Space loans may also be accessible for households that have suffered short term financial difficulty but will be able to afford to finance their property in the longer term.

Housing Services Manager Kim Robertshaw said:

‘Roughly 20 percent of people seeking housing advice from Ryedale District Council are at risk of losing private rented accommodation whilst only 3.7 percent have mortgage arrears. Because of this we want to raise awareness locally about the options available to those facing repossession’.

‘Housing Options staff can assist homeowners in accessing support to manage their finances in order to prevent homelessness in Ryedale’.

Appointments are available at Ryedale House in Malton with the Housing Options staff. Initial enquiries can be made by emailing housing@ryedale.gov.uk or phoning 01653 600666.
