Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Tour De YorkshireNINE members of the 40-strong Hillsview Academy Choir, who performed the official Tour de Yorkshire theme tune, are set to ride the route of Stage 3 of the journey next month.

They are preparing for a charity Coast to Coast bike ride taking place in July to raise money for Zoe’s Place and Teesside Cancer Trust.

The young people taking part are from South Bank, Grangetown, Eston, Normanby and Teesville and include: Matty Roe Ghyll, Harry Howes, Lewis Durrant, Frank Wright, Connor Vincent, Charlie Spencely, Tom Meadows, Barry Daniels and Erik Toulonvutas.

The boys from Year 9 have recently been involved in the filming and recording of their school choir’s version of “The Road” which was performed alongside singer-songwriter Alistair Griffin.

Now they have set themselves the challenge of riding the Stage 3 of Tour de Yorkshire route over two days, from Middlesbrough to Scarborough, to train for their epic Coast to Coast journey this summer.

Doug Elliott, Principal at Hillsview Academy in Eston said: “Being part of the Tour de Yorkshire has provided a fantastic opportunity for Hillsview students to showcase their ability. I am very proud of all our young people; they are capable of doing anything they set their minds to and it’s great that the Tour has inspired them.”

Cllr Craig Hannaway, Cabinet Member for Children at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council said:

“I am delighted that pupils in our borough have been given such unique opportunities in the recording of the Tour de Yorkshire song and the bike ride. I would like thank the teachers of Hillsview Academy who I imagine have put a great deal of work into the project.

“I wish the boys who are taking part in the bike ride next month the best of luck.”

The group, as members of Hillsview Academy Choir, are headline performers for the Ride Teesside Tour de Yorkshire Day 3 Festival on Sunday, May 1 at 10:55am at the Community Stage in Middlesbrough Town Centre.
