A North East based hospitality business is planning to add a new hotel to its growing chain – after buying a popular bar and restaurant.

High Street Hospitality has completed the purchase of The Three Horse Shoes and Tavistock Italia restaurant, just off the A1290, close to the A19 in Washington.

The company has plans to build a brand new 58 bedroomed hotel on the site – the fourth to join its expanding Hotel 52 brand. New life will also be breathed into the restaurant, which will become part of the business’ vibrant and popular Pazzo Italian restaurant chain.

A planning application has been submitted for the new hotel proposal, which will involve a unique modular construction technique, aimed at reducing the overall timescale of the build. It is hoped work will commence early next year, subject to planning approval.

Should it be given the go ahead, the £3.85million project will provide employment opportunities for local contractors on the construction side, whilst also creating 12 new jobs within the hotel operation.

High Street Hospitality already runs two hotels – under its Hotel 52 brand – at Whitley Bay and in Stanley and is currently renovating the iconic Sea Hotel in South Shields.

Having increased its portfolio massively over the last few months, the business is very close to completing a deal on a further site and has ambitious plans to establish a chain of mid-priced boutique hotels and restaurants across the whole of the North, within the next three years.

Phill Brumwell, High Street Hospitality Managing Director, said: “We’re delighted to add yet another excellent location to our growing hotel and restaurant business. With superb links to both Tyneside and Wearside, we look forward to being part of delivering more much needed, high quality accommodation and dining options for visitors to our region, through our Hotel 52 and Pazzo brands.

“We are currently examining options for more outlets across Tyne and Wear, in Durham and in Cumbria – where we hope to invest further in the coming months.”

High Street Hospitality is part of The High Street Group of Companies. With its headquarters in Stochbridge House, Newcastle, the business was established by Gary Forrest in 2006. It has grown to become a leading financial and property group employing over 100 people in activities including large scale property development and construction, hospitality and leisure.
