Contractors for Highways England will be resurfacing just over a mile of the A1 near Brownieside starting on Monday 1 August.
The work will be carried out under a 24 hours a day contraflow system, which means traffic will be able to travel in both directions on the northbound carriageway so drivers can continue their journeys safely.
Highways England project manager Steve Bishop said:
“When complete, this project will provide drivers with safer and smoother journeys along this stretch of the A1 in Northumberland.”
“Every effort is being made to ensure disruption to traffic and local residents is kept to a minimum, and we’ll be using a contraflow system on the northbound carriageway to keep vehicles running in both directions on the dual carriageway.”
Some side roads will be affected by the closure of the southbound carriageway but clearly signed diversions will be in place.
The scheme is expected to be completed by Sunday 21 August.
