The inventor of the resomation process, also known as ‘water cremation’ will speak at Durham University on Tuesday 1st May 2018.

Developed by Mr Sandy Sullivan, resomation is the process of dissolving the human body in a combination of water and alkali-based solution.

Mr Sullivan will give a lecture on the resomation process, which he argues is a gentler, more environmentally friendly option than standard flame cremation or burial, and could become an established practice in the UK.

Mr Sullivan will also meet the general public, funeral directors, clergy, funeral celebrants, and local authorities, as well as people concerned with death studies, ritual, environmental-ecological issues, identity and human wellbeing.

The lecture will take place at 6pm on Tuesday 1 May 2018, in Lecture room 140, Elvet Riverside, New Elvet.

The event, which is free to attend, is being hosted by Durham University’s Centre for Death and Life Studies.
