The forum, part of the IoD’s commitment to embrace tomorrow’s leaders today, represents the interests of members who are aged under 42, students, apprentices or members of its 99 Club for young entrepreneurs.

The Young Directors Forum previously focused exclusively on Yorkshire, but has now been expanded to cover the North East.

This means that hundreds more young business people will benefit from high quality professional development and networking while contributing to the IoD’s powerful voice in regional and national policy discussions.

Graham Robb, Chairman of the IoD in the North East, said: “There are many young entrepreneurs in the North East, who are making great strides in establishing their companies, creating employment and making a contribution to the region’s economy.

“It is important that the IoD provides targeted and incisive support and guidance to help them fulfill their full potential to become the region’s business grandees and role models of tomorrow.”

Lee Freeman, Chairman of the Young Directors for the newly joined region, added: “The North East is a real hotbed of opportunity for young entrepreneurs. We are now planning a programme of events that will enable them to access advice and develop their professional skills. I would urge any aspiring directors to come along to one of our many events to find out more.”

In recent months, IoD events have included a visit from George Osborne to Stockton and the Defence Secretary to Durham. It also welcomed the IoD director general Simon Walker and chief economist James Sproule to speak at events.

The IoD has about 2,000 members in Yorkshire and 500 in the North East. The Young Directors forum is reshaping its committee to reflect the new geographical spread, and is actively recruiting in the North East. For further information, please contact iod.northeast@iod.com.
