Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Jack Hunter signs for Gateshead FC

GATESHEAD FC are pleased to announce the signing of former Newcastle United under 23’s midfielder Jack Hunter.

20-year old Hunter was part of the Newcastle under 23 side that won the Northumberland Senior Cup.

“I’m really happy to have signed at Gateshead, the possibility of playing up to 40 games a year which is what I think I need for my development at this time in my career.” Said the former Newcastle United man.

“Its a great opportunity to come and play for a great football club where I can learn valuable experience.

“I think it’s important that Steve is building a squad of local players, you’re always going to get a bunch of players who’ll give their all.

“I think if you get a team that can gel together then they can push forward and hopefully it’ll be a good catalyst for the upcoming season.”

It was former Newcastle United defender, Steve Watson’s, style of football that attracted Hunter to the International stadium.

“I came and had a discussion with the manager and we discussed the way that we’ll be playing football and it’s something that I bought into.” Added the midfielder.

“I was very impressed with how he came over and he’ll be a really good influence and help me progress.”

Gateshead manager Watson brings in Hunter as the eight summer signing for the Heed and paid tribute to the young midfielder’s mentality.

“What impressed me most about Jack was his attitude” Said Gateshead FC manager Watson.

“He’s been at Newcastle for a number of years and his footballing ability won’t be questioned, but I really liked his mentality and his attitude.

“There’s a lot of lads his age who would look to play as high as they can up the leagues but he came in and he’s hada good chat with us about how important it is for him to get games.” Added Watson.

The young midfielder describes himself as a combative midfielder who likes a tackle, and manager Watson was impressed by his new signing having watched the former Newcastle Man for a while.

“Jack has bought into what we want to do and he’s got a strong mentality for such a young lad he’s a leader and a midfielder that can mix it up as well.

“That’s something we need at this level but like I say it’s not just his footballing ability that impressed me.

“His mental strength and understanding of what he needs to do to get where he wants to be and I think this will be a very important year for him.”
