Jacobs taps into to PDL niche analysis capabilities to strengthen UK nuclear offering

PDL Solutions (Europe) Ltd has been selected by Jacobs as a preferred supplier for its engineering design and analysis expertise in the UK nuclear sector.

The new relationship marks the culmination of a 12-month project where the two companies worked together, through the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s (NDA) SME Mentoring scheme, to build PDL’s capability to support the UK nuclear sector.

The comprehensive programme of development ensures PDL’s existing experience and capabilities in the nuclear sector align with Jacob’s operations, processes, security and supply chain expectations.

Following the completion of the mentoring programme, a new agreement has been signed between the two companies, which enable Jacobs to utilise the specialist engineering services PDL has developed and applied within the nuclear industry to enhance and complement Jacobs’ capability, capacity, flexibility and responsiveness.

With their knowledge and experience of UK nuclear design codes and practices, together with being recognised as being Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP), PDL engineers have delivered complementary advanced engineering support on a number of technically-demanding nuclear decommissioning and life extension projects during the past 15 years.

Michael Williams, Managing Director of PDL Solutions (Europe) Ltd, said: “This new relationship with Jacobs marks a significant development in PDL’s role in the UK nuclear industry and a further endorsement and recognition in our ability to deliver highly specialist and effective services to the sector.”

“Working closely with Jacobs during the past year will ensure a positive and collaborative future relationship, which will provide our business with new opportunities and bring additional capabilities to Jacobs.”

Pete Lutwyche, Jacobs’ Vice President Aerospace & Technology, said: “Jacobs is committed to engaging with the UK supply chain to deliver maximum returns for our clients through increased capability, flexibility, innovation and skills resiliency.”

He added: “Developing this relationship with PDL, through the NDA scheme, will benefit both companies and highlights the importance of engaging with small and medium-sized businesses, which consistently develop innovative and specialist skills that are beneficial to Jacobs and directly applicable to our industry.”
