Sage Gateshead is welcoming Cuban jazz piano sensation Alfredo Rodríguez and Grammy Award-winning jazz bassist Richard Bona for their only concert outside London.
Cameroon-born Bona’s balletically light-stepping runs, lazily grooving ostinatos and rhythmic eruptions are what brings in the jazz fans, but it’s Cuban, Brazilian and Caribbean dance music, afrobeat and African traditional songs that givess his music a much broader appeal.
Having played with such diverse artists such as George Benson, Joe Zawinul and Chaka Khan, he is currently performing with Havana-born Alfredo Rodríguez. Hailed as one of Cuba’s greatest pianists, Rodriguez was discovered by the great Quincy Jones and is known for the ease in which he switches between genres.
The concert is taking place on Monday 14th October – more information and booking here https://sagegateshead.com/whats-on/richard-bona-and-alfredo-rodriguez/
