Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

22-Redcar-steel-plant-PASSI Task Force members have organised a Jobs fair this week (Wednesday 14th October) to help redundant steelworkers find new employment.

Over 30 different employers are expected to take part to showcase over 700 available job vacancies. The Jobs fair is being held at the Redcar Heart from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm on Wednesday 14thOctober.

Sue Soroczan, District Manager of Durham and Tees Valley Jobcentre Plus said: “We’ve had a fantastic response from companies in the area and beyond who want to take part in the Jobs fair.  They recognise that the SSI workforce have excellent skills that would be transferable to a range of jobs currently available.”

Employers attending include Hitachi Rail, Group 4 Security, North East Ambulance Service, (MTrec – recruiting on behalf of Husqvarna Group), Central (supply chain for Nissan), National Tube Stockholders and Celsa Steel.  Vacancies range from heavy industry to administration and logistics.

Chair of the SSI Task Force and Chief Executive of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council Amanda Skelton said: “Finding another job is the top priority for the staff facing and experiencing redundancy. We are encouraging the SSI workforce, contractors and staff employed by companies in the SSI supply chain to attend the event and network with potential employers.”

A webpage has been set up for people with information and advice at www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/taskforce. The webpage contains details of the Jobs fair and a booklet called ‘Moving Forward’, a practical guide to redundancy and help finding your next job.
