REGIONAL businesses taking part in Calvert Trust Kielder’s annual corporate fundraiser have raised nearly £14,000 to support services for disabled people, their families and carers.
North East charity Calvert Trust Kielder welcomed twelve teams, including Seymour Civil Engineering, TLW Solicitors, Corepeople Recruitment, Ryecroft Glenton and event sponsors Forfusion, for the ‘Kielder Quest’ challenge which involved physical and mental land and water based activities.
Teams of six battled through the instructor-led challenges, including Let’s Get Quacking, Drop Zone and The Rack, in a bid to take home the coveted first prize and Kielder Quest trophy.
Reigning champions, team ‘il buono il brutto il cattivo’, from Esh Group were knocked off the top spot by ‘The Flexlays’ from IHC Engineering who were declared the eventual winners while Penny’s Dip Sticks from Penny Petroleum received a special award for displaying outstanding team spirit.
Jane Hudson, HR manager at IHC Engineering said: “We were really thrilled that one of our teams won the 2015 Kielder Quest. Some of the tasks were quite challenging but it was definitely worth the effort and we all had a fantastic time taking part and supporting what is truly a great cause.
“The work that Calvert Trust Kielder do is invaluable to a lot of people and their families and we are pleased to be able to support them.”
No-one left empty-handed though with all participants taking home an event goody bag and a specially designed Kielder Quest hoodie funded by Coversure Insurance Services Newcastle.
Event sponsors Forfusion also had a team competing. Marketing executive Sean Ball said: “The Calvert Trust is a fantastic cause and we’re delighted to have sponsored such a challenging event. As this was our first time participating, we’re just thrilled not have received the wooden spoon!”
Corporate & Events Fundraiser at Calvert Trust Kielder Hazel Ditchburn organised the event. She said: “It was another fantastic day. Really good fun, alongside some physical and mental tests but nothing our teams couldn’t handle. Everyone who came along and took part said it was brilliant.
“This is a major fundraising event for us and key to our ongoing work with regional and local businesses. We value their support so very much – so to double last year’s fundraising total is a great achievement, something we can all be proud of knowing the boost it will give to our work with disabled adults and children. Fingers crossed all this year’s teams come back even more determined next year!”
