Kind Fans Pay for Cancelled Games

Staunch supporters of Whitley Bay Football Club have been so disappointed to not be able to support their team to the end, that they have sent the club messages to ask how they can donate.

The kind gestures so far include payment of the gate fee of the three home games, and some people have even added in what they would have spent on programmes and drinks.

The team should have been playing Consett, Newton Aycliffe and North Shields at Hillheads Park in the run up to the end of the season. Since the cancellation of the games due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent temporary closure of The Seahorse Pub, the football club is now sadly incapable of raising any income.

Antonia Brindle, who looks after marketing for the club, quickly set up a crowdfund to ensure those who want to support in times of such hardship, can do. She said:

“A number of people were asking if they could donate the £18 it would have cost them to attend the last three home games to the club, to help.

“We were really touched, so opened a crowdfund, which means people could donate and leave good wishes for the team too. We are so delighted that people want to support the club and are also putting in the cost of other things they would have bought at the games.

“As a community club, every penny counts, and we are keen that we can start the new season, virus free and in a great place, so please do donate if you have anything at all spare!”
