Central Newcastle Law Firm, Peter Millican Law, has finalised a deal which returns a talented chef to the kitchen as co-owner of a new Jesmond restaurant.
Peter Millican Law represented John Dunn of Newcastle Trading Company Limited in the purchase of a restaurant on Jesmond’s Clayton Road, now named Forsyth & Reed. Jabad Jaigirdar, Senior Associate Solicitor, advised John that the newly appointed Head Chef, Eddie Saint, should also become a shareholder and co-owner of the business, enabling him to lead and develop the business. In opening the restaurant, two full time and four part time jobs have been created.
Eddie’s background includes working in the kitchens of both Hotel du Vin, and Close House in Newcastle. More recently he has worked at Newcastle College, teaching both kitchen skills and patisserie.
Eddie commented: “It is fantastic to be back in the kitchen, devising a menu I’m passionate about, and developing a restaurant we’re all proud of. We welcome everyone in to try our breakfasts, brunches or lunches, or for a coffee. We’re confident that anyone who gives us a try will be impressed with what they discover.
“I want to keep Forsyth & Reed interesting for our customers and for everyone who works here, so we’re constantly changing the menu depending on what’s available. I’m also keen to train our team so that they’re growing with the restaurant too.
“The team at Peter Millican Law brought insight and expertise to the role, and their advice on the business relationship between John and I was exactly what Forsyth & Reed needed, and has put us in a strong position from the beginning.”
The new restaurant, Forsyth & Reed, has opened with Eddie’s menu attracting exceptional reviews. Eddie’s ethos is to use good ingredients to make great food. Ingredients are sourced regionally where possible and fresh fish is delivered daily from North Shields. Eddie added: “I’ve even used wild garlic I picked on Jesmond Dene in recipes – that’s how committed we are to using local and seasonal ingredients.”
Jabad Jaigirdar of Peter Millican Law added: “As John wasn’t going to be involved in the day-to-day running of the restaurant, it was important that he found the right head chef who could not only create a stand-out menu, but would also be committed to the success of Forsyth & Reed. With Eddie as a co-owner, he is the driving force behind the restaurant, and his ambition and imagination are already having the desired impact. There’s a genuine buzz about the restaurant within a short time of opening, and we look forward to watching how Eddie develops Forsyth & Reed in the coming months and years.”
Forsyth & Reed is open from 8am to 5pm Monday to Sunday, serving breakfast, brunch, light lunches and coffees. There are plans to add evening opening in the future. For more information, search Forsyth & Reed on Facebook.
