A leading lawyer who specialises in acting for people with life-changing injuries has become the only person in the North East – and one of only a handful nationally – to receive an accreditation for his expertise in handling spinal cord injury cases.

John Davis, consultant at law firm Sintons, has been awarded the Spinal Cord Injury Specialist accreditation from APIL (Association of Personal Injury Lawyers), in recognition of his work in handling specialist and complex cases in this field during his 30-year career.

He becomes one of very few lawyers in the UK to hold this accreditation in addition to the APIL Brain Injury Specialist accreditation he was previously awarded.

John is frequently cited as one of the leading lawyers in the field of serious injury work both regionally and nationally, and was again named by Legal 500 2017 as a ‘leading individual’ in the North of England.

He joined Newcastle-based Sintons earlier this year as part of its neurotrauma team, which is highly esteemed for its work in handling serious injury claims from clients across the UK.

John, who was regional managing partner at Irwin Mitchell in Newcastle for over a decade before joining Sintons, said: “Spinal cord injuries are a very complex type of case and need to be handled by specialists who are experienced in acting for clients with this type of injury. This APIL accreditation is not only a recognition of my own work in this field but it also emphasises the range of specialist services that Sintons can offer to our clients.”

Brett Dixon, APIL president, said: “Specialist accreditation is a sign of real expertise. Injured people can feel confident in the knowledge that John Davis has successfully fulfilled extensive criteria to prove a high level of knowledge and ability to help people who have suffered a spinal cord injury. APIL will provide Mr Davis with ongoing training and development in best practice, enabling clients to get the justice to which they are entitled.”

Mark Quigley, managing partner of Sintons, said: “John is a true leader in his field and this latest accreditation is another endorsement of his outstanding work nationally. We are very proud to have this level of capability at Sintons. Our neurotrauma team as a whole enjoys a strong reputation regionally and nationally, and is highly regarded for its legal capability alongside delivering a deeply personal service to every one of its clients.”
