LIGHTS, CAMERA, TRACK ACTION…UK’S MOST POPULAR MOVIE CARS REVEALED

  • These are the 10 most popular movie cars to drive
  • The Shelby Mustang GT500 Eleanor is the celluloid champion!
  • Trackdays.co.uk lets people experience silver screen action behind the wheel

With the summer blockbuster season in full swing, the 10 most popular movie cars to drive have been revealed.

Topping the silver screen stakes based on bookings with www.trackdays.co.uk is the iconic Shelby Mustang GT500 Eleanor, starring in the hugely popular Gone in 60 Seconds, released in 2000 and starring Nicolas Cage.

Imran Malek, operations manager at TrackDays.co.uk, said: “The most popular movie cars to drive by Brits can now be revealed.

“It’s great to see that the awesome Shelby Mustang GT500 Eleanor is crowned the celluloid champion and it appears that blockbusters like Gone in 60 Seconds and the incredible Fast and Furious films are inspiring people to experience these awesome motors for the themselves.

“Indeed, while thousands of people head to the cinema this summer holiday to catch the latest blockbuster, thrill seekers are making tracks to their closest race circuit to drive a movie car for real!”

Meanwhile, taking second place is the unmistakable Ford Escort RS MK1 from the Fast & Furious 6 which was released in 2013 and is currently also being enjoyed at race circuits across the UK.

The final podium spot, and the most modern car making up the top three, is the Audi R8, loved by Tony Stark played by Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man and also loved by Brits putting pedal to the metal.

Further down the leaderboard in sixth position, and flying the homegrown flag, is the ultra-stylish Aston Martin DB5, probably the most famous James Bond car which cemented its place in movie history when it starred alongside Sean Connery in Goldfinger in 1964.

Meanwhile, two Japanese car makers also make an appearance in the top 10. Powering in at fifth position with www.trackdays.co.uk is the Nissan GT-R R35 which plays a starring role in the blockbuster Furious 7, released in 2015 to widespread critical acclaim.

Going back to the start of The Fast and the Furious franchise, which began in 2001, and the Toyota Supra takes tenth spot as the most popular movie car to experience currently.

Imran added: “Going to the cinema is great fun but for some people simply watching the on-screen action just isn’t enough. They want to experience the thrills behind the wheel like their film idols and driving a movie car at a race circuit is the next closest thing.”
