Inspired by World Book Day, Barratt Homes Yorkshire West, has donated £50 in book vouchers to Meltham Church of England Primary School, after encouraging children to let their imaginations run wild and write their very own short stories.

All the children in the school’s two Year 3 classes, aged 7-8, were asked to write and illustrate their own short story titled ‘My Magic House’, inspired by Barratt Homes’ aim to create homes people fall in love with.

The story writing activity encouraged the children to let their minds run free, taking the reader on any adventure they liked when writing about their very own take on a magic house. To celebrate the students taking part, Barratt Homes gifted £50 in book vouchers to the school for them to enrich their collection of books for pupils to enjoy.

Vicky Taithe, Year 3 teacher and subject leader for English at Meltham C of E Primary School, commented: “We were delighted when Barratt Homes asked if we would like to take part in a story-writing activity inspired by World Book Day. It was fantastic to see the children’s imaginations sparked by the fun theme. They are all really proud of their stories, as are we. The book vouchers are such a lovely gift, and will make a big difference to the children. They are really looking forward to delving into ‘Varjak Paw’ by SF Said next term and the donation enabled us to buy additional copies of this wonderful book.”

Jenny Laslett, Sales Adviser at Barratt Homes commented: “It was lovely to visit Meltham C of E Primary School and receive the children’s wonderful stories. They all put a lot of effort in and they’re going to look great on display in our Helme Ridge sales office. We’re always looking for ways we can contribute to the local community, and this activity not only helped the school and encouraged children to be creative, but it was also a lot of fun for everyone involved; there really were some very magical houses!”

Located near to Meltham C of E Primary School, Barratt Homes’ development Helme Ridge offers an attractive semi-rural development of stylish three and four bedroom homes, available to purchase from £199,995.
