Leading local housebuilder, Barratt Homes Yorkshire East, is donating £1,000 to the Bubwith Leisure Centre near Selby to help with the centre’s Raise the Roof campaign. The project aims to restore the old roof that was originally built over 25 years ago so the community can continue to use the site to host local events and activities.

Bubwith Leisure Centre and Playing Fields is a charity dedicated to providing a focal point within the village, with local people using the centre to host youth groups, sports clubs, playgroups and many other activities. With Barratt Homes’ support the centre will be able to continue to carry out its social welfare commitments whilst improving the current facilities. The sponsorship is the latest donation reflecting the housebuilders’ commitment to working with existing communities in the areas in which it builds.

Linzi Bentley, Sales Manager at Barratt Homes Yorkshire East, commented: “The Bubwith Leisure Centre is a great place for children and adults alike to come together and take part in various activities. We wanted to ensure that the centre had enough support to continue the great work it does within the community – we’re very pleased to have the opportunity to support the centre, especially as it’s located so close to our Barley Fields and St Wilfrid’s Walk developments.”

As part of its fundraising efforts, the Bubwith Leisure Centre will be taking part in “The Great Get Together Weekend”, 16th – 18th June, to celebrate the life and work of the late MP, Jo Cox. During the event at the centre and surrounding playing fields, which will be taking place from 1.30pm on Sunday 18th June, Barratt Homes Yorkshire East will be presenting the centre with an official cheque and there will be plenty of fun activities taking place for everyone to enjoy. This includes an auction of some fantastic gifts, face painting, crafts, sporting games and a performance from The East Riding of Yorkshire Brass Band. Afternoon teas will also be served along with a selection of other hot and cold food and drinks.

Steve Johnston, Centre Trustee, at the Bubwith Leisure Centre, commented: “We have such a strong community in Bubwith and having the centre fully functioning means that we can continue having a focal point for people to use to get together. We’re grateful that Barratt Homes has been able to support us with this, and having the cheque presented to us at the Jo Cox memorial event is a great example of the community work that she passionately promoted. We hope to see plenty of people down there!”
