Longbow, the pioneering British electric sportscar company, has unveiled the Aesthetic Dynamic Demonstrator of its first Featherweight Electric Vehicle (FEV), the Speedster. In doing so, the company has achieved an automotive industry first, moving from sketch to road in just six months and embodying its motto ‘Speed of Lightness’.
Longbow celebrated this milestone together with customers (dubbed ‘Guild members’), VIPs and select collaborators in London. Designed and built from a clean sheet, Speedster is the definitive ‘driver’s car’, utilising lightweight construction and accessible performance to deliver an unparalleled electrified experience. Weighing sub-1000kg, Speedster also decisively establishes the all-new FEV category.
Speed of Lightness: Sketch to road in six months
While it is a rallying cry for enthusiasts and the resurrection of lightweight British sportscars for the modern era, Longbow’s Speed of Lightness also describes the company’s approach to vehicle development. The effectiveness of this strategy has now been demonstrated, with Longbow’s founders having leveraged their 15-plus years at the forefront of the electric vehicle industry to overhaul and accelerate the traditional vehicle development cycle.
What would take most traditional Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) around 18 months, the Longbow team has achieved in just a third of the time. This was not an exercise in corner-cutting; it was an ambitious project to condense, enhance, and accelerate every step of the process. Having achieved all critical milestones within the accelerated timescale to date, the first customer deliveries are on track for 2026. All Longbow models will be designed, engineered, and hand built in the UK.
Longbow Speedster: British archetype electrified
Longbow fulfils the desire of enthusiasts for more driver-oriented, featherweight, electric sportscars that are also attainable and accessible. Its cars are designed explicitly for those who love driving and the places it takes them, offering a spiritual successor to British icons like the Lotus Elise and Jaguar E-Type. Through its first model, Speedster, Longbow offers a combination of beautiful design, lightweight construction, impeccable engineering, and meticulous hand finishing.
Timeless design, purposeful performance
With an emphasis on ‘duality’, expressed in a distinctive two-tone paint scheme, the front of the Longbow silhouette reflects the nostalgia and timeless allure of classic sportscars, while the rear signals the modern EV platform upon which Longbow’s first two models will be built.
The bespoke Longbow aluminium chassis has been engineered for minimal weight and maximum stiffness. It is paired with a light, compact electric motor and ‘module-to-chassis’ battery technology, making Speedster the world’s first featherweight all-electric sportscar for the modern enthusiast.
Speedster offers an open-topped experience like no other, weighing just 895kg and sprinting to 62mph in 3.5 seconds. It has a range of 275 miles (WLTP) and a starting price of ₤84,995 (incl VAT). Speedster will be succeeded by the closed-top Roadster, starting from ₤64,995 (incl VAT). Reservations for both are available now.
Daniel Davey, Co-Founder, CEO at Longbow, concludes: “Speedster seems to have struck a chord with enthusiasts. It’s a timeless blueprint with a twist, which was exactly what the market was missing. Inviting customers to this unveiling was our way of saying thank you. We’re a new company with a new product, seeing their faith and passion for a vehicle we have built is a special feeling. While Speedster defies convention, so too has our journey to get here – we’ve managed to deliver a Dynamic Demonstrator in just six months. No truer illustration of our Speed of Lightness approach.”
