The Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Hazel Stephenson, has joined in the celebrations of a Newcastle resident’s 101st birthday.

Eunice Mckay, a resident at Dene Park House care home, celebrated the landmark birthday with family, friends and staff at a special party held at the home.

Eunice, who was born and lived her whole life in Byker, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, became a resident at the Akari Care-operated home in August 2015.

Leigh Tania Brown, home manager at Dene Park House, said: “Eunice is a lovely lady and is still very independent and able to walk without the aid of a frame or assistance, which is remarkable at her age. She is a well-liked resident and the visit of the Lord of Mayor was the perfect way to round off the birthday celebrations.

“Everyone at the home has had the pleasure of getting to know Eunice over the last year, since she moved in, and it was great to have everyone come together and celebrate Eunice’s 101st.

“I would like to thank Councillor Stephenson for dropping in and greeting our residents, as well as everyone who attended and made the day so special for Eunice.”

Based on Killingworth Road, the home provides specialist care for 51 elderly residents.
