Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Lynx Precast cements its future in the North East with major investment at Harworth’s Lynefield

Lynx Precast Limited, one of the North’s best known manufacturers and installers of precast, concrete flooring systems, has cemented its future in Northumberland by committing to a further 15 years and additional space at Lynefield Park, a multi-million pound industrial site currently being redeveloped at the former Alcan Aluminium smelter plant at Lynemouth.

Working closely with site owners and leading land regeneration and property development company, Harworth Group, Lynx Precast was one of the first occupiers to locate to Lynefield Park back in 2014 and will now take an extra 20,000 sq ft of industrial space adjoining its existing unit to enable expansion and sales growth within the UK’s construction industry.

The company employs 48 staff and supplies precast concrete flooring products to national and regional housebuilders, main contractors, groundworkers and builders merchants. It has invested more than £3 million into its T Beam and Hollowcore manufacturing plant which is the only facility in the North East to produce both products.

Andy Teasdale, managing director of Lynx Precast Limited commented, “This is an exciting next phase in the company’s growth and our ambitions to grow the business on a national level are firmly rooted here in Northumberland. The nature of our business dictates the commercial space that we require in terms of land, storage, services, access for vehicles and local transport infrastructure, and Lynefield Park met all of our requirements now and for the future.

“The development plans that Harworth Group has for the site demonstrates a fantastic and sustainable vision, not only for the local area and surrounding communities, but also for individual businesses, the region and wider economy. Having started Lynx Precast here shortly after the closure of the Alcan smelter plant, it offered us a total, all-round solution and now allows us to expand and scale-up the business with the possibility of new jobs being created over the next year.”

Lynefield Park, which has attracted tenants including H-Mix, Cook & Turnbull, NB Clark and Harmison Fitness, has a number of B1, B2 and B8 industrial units onsite ranging from 9,000 to 40,000 sq ft. Situated close to main road, rail and sea transport links, the 1.3 million sq ft brownfield site (175 acres) can accommodate future units of up to 500,000 sq ft on a freehold or design and build basis following an 18 months demolition programme in preparation for future redevelopment.

Harworth Group has planning permission for four industrial zones at Lynefield Park, including opportunities for bespoke-build units, and is working closely with a number of organisations interested in locating to the site. This could provide new and replacement job creation following the closure of industries that once formed the identities and backbone of local communities in South East Northumberland.

Eddie Peat, Director of Harworth Group (North East & Corporate Development) added, “Harworth has a long and very successful track record transforming sites like the former Alcan site here in Lynemouth into strategic and sustainable new places following the decline of past industries. Our Waverley site in Rotherham is a great example of what we can achieve following 20 years of work with Government agencies, housebuilders and leading commercial occupiers such as Rolls-Royce, Boeing and McLaren Automotive.

“Harworth Group has a real commitment to the North East and South East Northumberland and our vision for Lynefield Park clearly demonstrates this.”

Lynefield Park is one of the largest brownfield development sites in the North East and outline planning permission was secured in October 2017 for 121,000 sq m (around 1.3m sq ft) of flexible B1(c), B2 and B8 uses together with ancillary uses. The revised planning permission now enables Lynefield Park to offer development potential in future phases and the opportunity of job creation stimulating further investment in the regional economy.
