HR Show Some Love 2015Maggie’s Newcastle, the charity which provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their family and friends, is encouraging people to share their love and take part in a social media campaign to raise money for the Centre and awareness of the support provided for people affected by cancer.

Maggie’s Newcastle is asking the local community to ‘Show Some Love’ by sending a picture via social media and using the hashtag #showsomelove. Supporters can text MAGG78 to 70070 to donate £1 and then nominate two further people to do the same, aiming to spread the campaign as far as possible.

Supporters can #showsomelove for Maggie’s and donate money by taking a selfie, a picture with a loved one, a friend, colleague or pet (the more inventive, the better) and share it on social media using the hashtag #showsomelove and tagging @maggiesne.

Kelly Knighting-Wykes, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Newcastle said: “The #showsomelove campaign is really easy to get involved in and we hope we can encourage as many people as possible to join in and have fun with it. By taking part supporters are helping us to raise vital funds for the Centre as well as raising awareness of the support we offer to people affected by cancer.”

The #showsomelove campaign aims to raise awareness of Maggie’s and the free practical, emotional and social support offered to anyone affected by cancer in the North East and Cumbria. The Centre will celebrate its second birthday in May and since opening has supported more than 30,000 visitors and the Centre’s Benefits Advisor has helped claim more than £2 million in benefits and grants for those entitled to them.

Built in the grounds of the Freeman Hospital Maggie’s Newcastle is a warm and welcoming place, where qualified professionals are on hand to offer an evidence-based core programme of support that has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.
