Major Multi-Sport Event Returns to Stockton

ATHLETES of all abilities are now able to claim their place on the starting line of next year’s Stockton Duathlon.

The sixth edition of the hugely popular event features a race which will also act as an official British Triathlon Age-Group qualifier for the 2019 ETU European Duathlon Championships (Standard distance).

On Sunday 22 April 2018, entrants will run-cycle-run their way through their chosen route distance:

  • Go-Tri – 2k run, 10k cycle, 1k run
  • Sprint – 5k run, 20k cycle, 2.5k run
  • Standard – 10k run, 40k cycle, 5k run

All races take place on a fully closed multi-lap course which is flat, fast and spectator friendly. There are also cash prizes to be won for first (£500), second (£300) and third (£200) places in the Standard distance event for both males and females, plus medals and goodie bags up for grabs or all participants.

Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure, and Culture, said: “It is a real coup for Stockton to be hosting a race that is part of the 2018 British Triathlon Age-Group Major Events calendar. It is testament to just how thrilling an opportunity this is for people to lace up their running shoes and get on their bikes to take part in a major sporting event here in Stockton.

“It’s also a wonderful chance for people of all fitness levels and abilities to set themselves a challenge and take on the distance which suits them best, so I’d encourage everyone who is interested to secure their place today.

“And for people thinking of entering there will be plenty for their family and friends to see while you’re out on the track, including some breath-taking scenery on the banks of the River Tees.”

Stockton’s Duathlon has also been recognised at Triathlon England North East’s awards for the second successive year.

The Duathlon is hosted by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council in partnership with TriHard and is supported by British Triathlon.
