DBL Sharks Sheffield have confirmed their third returnee for the 2018-19 season as local power forward Rob Marsden signs a two-year deal.

The Doncaster-native joined the Sharks last summer and averaged 8.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in the BBL Championship.

Marsden produced an outstanding performance in the Trophy Final with an individual contribution of 16 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists, narrowly missing out on lifting the silverware by a single basket.

The Yorkshire side were thrilled with the overall effort and determination and have decided to secure Marsden’s services for the next two seasons in line with captain Mike Tuck until 2020.

“We have really enjoyed having Rob on board with us this season,” said Coach Atiba Lyons. “This guy is so hard working he sets a great example to everyone on the team in terms of effort.

“He is a great person and he just gets on with what I want him to do, I’m very happy to have him for the next couple of seasons.”

Marsden was thrilled to sign his contract and is looking forward to seeing the team signings unfold.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect from Sheffield, but I had a good year overall and I really enjoyed it,” he said. “I was really disappointed we didn’t snag the Trophy, and probably underperformed for a wee period so next season we have a lot to set straight.”

As the search continues, Coach Lyons continues to recruit in the United States, but still wants to refine his British players.

“I am taking my time to make sure I really like the components going forward, we are making some changes so it is important to find exceptional pieces but I am happy so far with the foundations that are in place.”

Sheffield now have Marsden, Tuck and Chris Alexander on their roster ahead of the new season.
