A PELTON care home has been described as “marvellous” and “one of the nicest” in a report from industry watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Pelton Grange Care Home, on Front Street, received a surprise visit from inspectors, who spoke to almost two dozen residents and relatives during their inspection.
The home received an overall rating of “Good”, with the same rating across all five key areas of the inspection report.
These include: “is the service safe?”, “is the service effective?”, “is the service caring?”, “is the service responsive?”, “is the service well-led?”.
In the report, one resident was quoted: “I feel safe because I’m so well looked after. I can’t fault it here.”
A relative commented: “I’m always happy leaving [family member] here as I know they’re safe and well looked after. The staff love [family member] and always make a fuss of them. Staff are caring and so friendly. Nothing’s a bother here whatsoever.”
Another said: “What they have done here is marvellous. [Family member] has put on weight and is a different person.”
Alongside those using the service, CQC inspectors also spoke to staff and visiting professionals.
One health care professional said: “This is one of the nicest homes I go to. Staff know people well. Staff are approachable and helpful and are responsive when people’s needs change.”
Staff members also received high praise. A resident commented: “All the staff are kind and nice and will do anything for you.” Another said: “The staff are amazing.”
One relative said: “Initially [family member] came here for a few weeks to see how it went. I’ve been so pleased with everything they’re going to stay permanently. The staff are very caring and respectful.”
Residents, relatives and staff also heaped praise on the home’s manager, Chris Hogan-Hind. One relative described him as “brilliant”, adding: “He’s efficient and checks on the staff.”
A staff member was quoted: “I love working here as it’s like one big family. Chris is very supportive. It’s like a breath of fresh air working here.”
Another staff member added: “Everything is about the residents here and making things personal to them. It’s so positive. Chris always reminds us this is people’s home.”
In response to the report, Chris said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a “Good” rating following our recent CQC inspection report.
“The amazing feedback from residents and their relatives means the most to everyone here at Pelton Grange, however, as our number one priority is providing a safe, caring and comfortable home for them.
“The staff work incredibly hard to ensure we are providing a first-class service for those who reside with us and we’re pleased this has been recognised by the CQC.”
