A London resident served up a winning formular during Wimbledon last year to pocket £1,300 in just two weeks, simply through renting out her driveway.
Indeed, Aliya Aralbayeva, from Wimbledon, London, registered the spare space she has on her driveway on an app as a way to make some extra income during the annual tennis tournament, which is within walking distance of her home.
The strategic decision to rent out her driveway during the two-week tennis extravaganza proved to be a savvy move with demand for her space increasing by 600 per cent during the two-week tournament, earning Aliya a staggering £700 during the first week and an additional £600 during the second.
Aliya, who started renting out her space via YourParkingSpace in 2017, explained how the simple parking hack brings in an extra income boost during the summer: “I had heard about the app before but didn’t think much more about it at the time.
“Every year there are always the same parking issues during the tournament and that’s when I realised that I could offer my spare spot to visitors. I live so close to the venue and they’re so happy when they realise it’s just a short walk.
“I actually donate my earnings during this period to a Ukrainian healthcare sector charity due to the amount I am able to bring in.”
Brannan Coady, CEO of YourParkingSpace, emphasised the financial rewards and community contribution associated with renting out driveways during major events. Coady stated, “Aliya’s remarkable earnings during Wimbledon exemplify the tremendous financial potential of utilising spare driveways.
“By making their spaces available, residents not only generate substantial income but also alleviate parking woes for event attendees. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved.”
Recent years have seen many event goers shun traditional parking methods and pre-book driveways due to their practical location, as well as generally being cheaper than prices offered by the venues themselves.
Wimbledon currently offers a limited amount of on-site pre-bookable parking for £40, however prices start from as little as £17.50 via YourParkingSpace’s website if looking for somewhere to park on the final day of the tournament.
