Materials Processing Institute to present at international industry conference

The Materials Processing Institute’s work is to be showcased on the international stage when three of its papers are presented at the ninth European Continuous Casting Conference (ECCC).

Colleagues at the Institute, which is based in Middlesbrough, have authored and contributed to a series of papers, which will be presented at the summer conference, titled:

  • ‘New insights into the effect of steel chemistry and caster design on microalloying precipitation and surface quality of low carbon boron steels’
  • ‘Slab section thickness, precipitation and off-corner cracking in microalloyed plate steel’
  • ‘Novel techniques for controlling heat transfer in the mould-strand gap’

The ECCC is a unique forum for the European continuous casting community, which focuses on new and future developments of the continuous casting process, as well as addresses steel metallurgical issues.

Chris McDonald, CEO of the Materials Processing Institute, said: “The ECCC is a prestigious industry event and one that will be in the diaries of top professionals with an interest in the steel and metallurgy sectors. It is welcome news that the Institute and our staff have been recognised for their work and contributions, who rightfully deserve to be showcased internationally.

“The conference will also provide the perfect opportunity for colleagues in the sector to meet and learn about emerging developments within the steel industry, benefitting processes, research and development, as well as product development.”

The ninth ECCC conference will take place at the Austria Center, in Vienna, from June 26th-29th.
